MKE 2017 Week 6 – Self love and distractions

“And most of all I will love myself. For when I do I will zealously inspect all things which enter my body, my mind, my soul, and my heart. Never will I overindulge the
requests of my flesh; rather I will cherish my body with cleanliness and moderation. Never will I allow my mind to be attracted to evil and despair, rather I will uplift it
with the knowledge and wisdom of the ages. Never will I allow my soul to become complacent and satisfied, rather I will feed it with meditation and prayer. Never will I allow my heart to become small and bitter, rather I will share it and it will grow and warm the earth.”
Og Mandino ”The Greatest Salesman in the World” Scroll II
Oh, how good it is to read this part of scroll II again for a month, don´t know if it´s just me, yet this is something I need constant reminding of.
I often observe how I am unnecessarily hard on myself, planning to do more than I can actually accomplish in a day and then chastising myself for not measuring up to my own unrealistic expectations and demands. And I don´t think I´m alone in this…
How easy isn´t it to get caught up in the distractions of daily life and temporarily forget about taking care of ourselves?
This reminds me of a story I heard while visiting my Mastermind partner Lance Botha in South Africa early this year and joining him and his wife for Sunday service. Terran, the minister, conveys an anecdote from Martin Luthers life when the reformist had a really busy day in front of him and said (paraphrasing): Today I have so much to do I need to pray at least 3 hours to get everything done!
I think this provides a beautiful reflection of how important it is to allow ourselves the time in silence necessary to get the important work done!

MKE 2017 Week 5 – Practicing patience!

‘Yet, within my allotted time I must practice the art of patience for nature acts never in haste.’
How true this rings for me this week…
Early this summer I got into a real down pour on my way home from work and, my backpack not being as water resistant as I thought it to be, my MacBook Air took in some water and didn’t start.
The guy at the repair shop changed some part and got it working halfheartedly again, yet it was never really back to it’s old self…
So, when I found a used 11” MacBook at a very reasonable price, I decided to order it just to be safe…
Last Saturday I accidentally threw over an open bottle of mineral water and, unfortunately my laptop sat exactly in the way of the flood following.
I’m amazed about my calm reaction to the incident, rather than freak out I just took it easy, dried the MacBook as well as possible and put it out in the hot Cyprus sun the next day (and the following) to hopefully have it dry out and minimize damage.
Anyway, my practice in remaining patient did not end here…
Have you any much longer it takes to do everything on an iPad instead of a computer?
Well, I didn’t either before this event and it has been a remarkable learning experience.
I’m proud and grateful that I got all the really important stuff taken care of, and mainly my presence on social media suffered some.
I just have to appreciate the fact that God has humor and I gotta love irony as the bottle-flip-over happened the day after my replacement laptop had been delivered to my home in Sweden.
I’m just so grateful for Apple’s extraordinary well functioning backup system and the easy with which I could recreate my material after getting back to Stockholm!
Looking forward to being back to normal digital presence and, yes, I learned my lesson – no more fluids next to my laptop ???
